RPA’s Adam Young Wins Haleon’s Commerical “Keeping It Human” Award

Adam Young, Vice President and Senior Project Manager for RPA Engineering, working with Haleon was recently awarded Haleon’s Commerical Keeping It Human Award for his work on the Venova project, creating new packaging for one of Haleon’s significant North American allergy relief products.

Haleon is a world-leading consumer health company “with a clear purpose to deliver better everyday health with humanity,” manufactures trusted Consumer Health brands, including oral health, vitamin, pain relief, respiratory, and digestive health portfolios.

To better align with consumer demands and their corporate sustainability objective, Haleon designed a more environmentally friendly and sustainable pack for Flonase/Sensimist. The new package replaces the existing plastic clamshell with a biodegradable Paperfoam tray. The elimination of the plastic clamshell will deliver a significant reduction in annual plastic usage, as well as support Haleon’s financial goals. To achieve this change, Haleon needed to purchase new equipment and make modifications to existing lines at a secondary packaging facility.

In his role, Adam was involved with the specification and procurement of new and modified equipment, including automated packaging lines. He partnered with both original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Haleon to ensure these upgrades achieved the desired operational results. Additionally, Adam collaborated with Haleon’s R&D and technical teams to test various packaging components and design elements. This included evaluating paperboard types, equipment operating parameters, and Paperfoam shapes to meet biodegradability goals and ensure compatibility with retailer shelving.

With the successful completion of these facility modifications, Haleon is now using the new packaging on several packaging lines, with continued efforts by the project team to improve and expand operations. The finished and more environmentally friendly packaging is now available in stores.

Congratulations to Adam Young on his award and to Haleon for their commitment to sustainability!
