On-Site Engineer Spotlight: Cesar Hernandez

RPA Engineering offers on-site engineering and project management services to assist our clients with their day-to-day needs. On-site project engineers and project managers come from a variety of backgrounds and can handle many different types of projects. Our engineers are there throughout the entire life cycle of a project, from project conception through project completion. Our project engineers can assist clients with concept development, establishing project budgets and schedules, funding requests and purchase requisitions. On-site Project Managers provide contractor oversight and installation supervision along with managing project close-out procedures.

One of our on-site project engineers is Cesar Hernandez. Cesar has a background in electrical engineering, and he joined RPA in February 2021. He has been on-site the duration of his career here. He currently works on-site at a large specialty metals manufacturer.

We interviewed Cesar to provide more insight and learn more about what our on-site engineers do!

Q. What do you enjoy about your job?

I enjoy interacting with Engineers, Technicians, Maintenance crews.

Q. What is the hardest part of your job?

There is a lot of waiting involved with the job. This includes working with suppliers, managers, and technicians due to their busy schedules. It can be difficult to keep track of information and ensure communication with everyone involved in a project.

Q. What part of your job on-site were you most prepared for?

I come from a manufacturing background which prepared me for my current job. I’ve also worked with technicians and maintenance crews in the past. Having mechanical and electrical engineering skills also helped prepare me for this job.

Q. What parts of being on-site had the biggest learning curve for you?

For me one of the biggest learning curves have been becoming familiar with the process from start to finish. It has definitely taken time for me to learn the process and I have figured it out as I go. Using PLCs (programmable logic controllers) has also been a learning experience for me.

Q. What skills that you have developed on-site make you a better overall engineer?

I have definitely developed many technical skills as a project engineer. I have gained experience using PLCs, Controls, and working with high power and high current electricity. I have also learned more about different kinds of hardware and software from being onsite.

Q. What did you want to be when you grew up and why?

Growing up I knew that I wanted to work with electronics and electronic design.

Q. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would love to see Italy someday. There is so much history and culture there to see and explore. Plus, all of the good food.
