Senior Structural Engineer, Jon Belinski, Speaks to Local K’nex Design Club

Last week, Jon Belinski, senior structural engineer at RPA, spoke to the Cumru Elementary School K’nex Design Club about what it is like being an engineer. Jon discussed the importance of communication, collaboration, and innovation in real-world engineering.

K’nex is a competition for fourth and fifth graders where they are tasked with designing, developing, and implementing solutions to engineering problems.

The K’nex team shared their design notebook, blue prints, and final prototype with Jon. The design challenge for this year was focused on transportation. The team came up with the idea to create a boat that collects floating debris while in operation. The prototype also consisted of some ‘green’ features including wind turbines and solar panels.

The Cumru K’nex team placed 2nd in a countywide competition against 29 other teams. Congratulations to the team on their hardwork and success!
