Westinghouse Launches “Next-Generation” Microreactor

Westinghouse Launches “Next-Generation” Microreactor

On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Westinghouse Electric Company announced the launch of a new design and manufacturing facility. This facility will repurpose an 87,000 square foot building at 51 Bridge Street in Etna, PA to further develop its eVinci™ microreactor technology. This new technology will provide clean energy for a variety of uses including disaster relief, data centers, off the grid communities and more. According to Westinghouse, each microreactor is designed to provide approximately 5 megawatts of electricity for 24 hours a day for 7 days a week for almost 10 years – without refueling.¹

The existing building, built in 1902, was previously used as a manufacturing warehouse. The revitalization started with a core and shell and will continue with tech flex space redevelopment and roof deck, all while maintaining the historic industrial aesthetic. Working side by side with our trusted partners, JLL and Desmone, RPA Engineering is providing expert engineering design services for the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Process Piping for these renewed spaces.

Our team was thrilled to join the launch ceremony with Governor Josh Shapiro, County Executive Rich Fitzgerald, Westinghouse Electric Company President and CEO Patrick Fragman, DOE Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy Dr. Kathryn Huff, along with other distinguished guests as they officially announced Westinghouse’s innovative eVinci™ technology. RPA is proud to be a partner in this state-of-the-art facility that will positively impact the Pittsburgh region locally and beyond with this cutting-edge clean energy technology.
