RPA Engineering offers on-site engineering and project management services to assist our clients with their day-to-day needs. On-site project engineers and project managers come from a variety of backgrounds and can handle many different types of projects. Our engineers are there throughout the entire life cycle of a project, from project conception through project completion. Our project engineers can assist clients with concept development, establishing project budgets and schedules, funding requests and purchase requisitions. On-site Project Managers provide contractor oversight and installation supervision along with managing project close-out procedures.
One of our on-site Engineering Project Managers is Jayson Winick. Jayson has a background in mechanical engineering and he joined RPA in April 2021. He has been on-site the duration of his career here. He currently works on-site at a large Food & Beverage manufacturer.
We interviewed Jayson to provide more insight and learn more about what our on-site engineers and project managers do!
Q: What do you enjoy about your job?
A: I enjoy that my job on-site exposes me to different engineering disciplines and allows me to work on diverse projects. The exposure to various projects and challenges keeps things interesting!
Q: What is the hardest part of your job?
A: The hardest part of my job is making sure all people involved in a project or affected by an outage are informed of timeline/project changes that happen during the lifecycle of a project. As the liaison, I need to ensure all parties are fully informed as we go to ensure we aren’t interrupting another important project or process along the way.
Q: What part of your job on-site were you most prepared for?
A: I come from a background in manufacturing from my previous job and internships, so I feel I was most prepared to be involved in another manufacturing environment.
Q: What parts of being on-site had the biggest learning curve for you?
A: While I come from a manufacturing background, I was entirely new to the Food & Beverage industry. I had to learn to think about manufacturing in a different way, and consider things like cross-contamination, allergies, and food safety.
Q: What skills that you have developed on-site make you a better overall engineer and project manager?
A: My overall communication skills have gotten better since I am constantly communicating with people from all different areas of experience. I also have developed my organization and time management skills balancing various projects with differing deadlines.
Q: What did you want to be when you grew up and why?
A: I wanted to be in the NBA when I grew up. I played basketball from 4 years old all the way through college. Unfortunately, I’m only 6 feet tall, so I had to choose a more practical dream!
Q: When did you know you wanted to be an engineer?
A: I have always been passionate for cars and how they work. I started taking some technical automotive courses in high school and that led me to discover engineering and engineering principles.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: Machu Picchu, Peru
